Pre-sentencing

Interview with Alison

JM: Tell us about the pre-sentencing process:
Alison: I was arrested about sunset on Fri. Nite of Labor Day weekend. Once @ the jail I was led to a hallway with lockers on rt an open (non-working) shower a@ the end & windows & door to a men's holding cell. I had to "dress out" then processed. Then to only women's pod . Aprox 8-10 cells / 2beds per/ 5-8 persons in each. During 2nd day I had sis urge & was then segregated to single cell in men's section. I stayed there until arraigned with judge Stice who OR'ed me . Mon morning. I was released approx 10pm with shoes missing to walk home.

JM: Did you have police stop by your house for questioning? If not please give us details on how you came to be arrested.
Alison: My neighbor said she felt sorry for me as I was evicted fri morn by judge stove. I had been burglarized. Said neighbor gave me a "pay check" to help. My mental disability left me unprepared for Felony charges or existence of such situations. In reality the inmates treated me with more care & respect than anyone except the 2 judges. None of them called me retarded Be invisible yet indispensable. I'm really not sure what these min word limitations are all about however I make efforts to be as clear and honest as we'll. god bless please understand I'm not being facetious.

JM: What was court like? Please give as many details as you recall.
Alison: I agreed to participate in a women's program that helped me through the entire process. Although I ha been released on my own. The provided transport the 40mi each way to every court date. The judge was my only other ally. The part time public defender openly mocked my mental handicaps. The judge (don't remember her name) ordered that I got 5yr deffered with 1st yr Spvr probation. I told her my situation & she said no prob I could report by phone. She also waived all fees of any kind.

JM: What were your original charges? What did you end up being convicted of?
Alison: 1st= felony uttering a forged instrument. 2nd= felony possession of forged instument.
