Leisure Time

Interview with Rachel

JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time?
Rachel: I think once a week we would go out for recreation, i believe their was church and also AA meetings if I remember and I think you could request to go to the library too. Im not really sure i didnt do any of them except recreation some times. I read a lot.

JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce? Give details.
Rachel: Yes, their was a Tv but certain people were in charge of what went on the tv. someone like me would never be able to watch what i wanted to watch. I never complained. They also played a lot of cards but I never played. I think their was a couple board games to but I didn't play.

JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail?
Rachel: Yes, your only in one big dorm room and you can walk around but theirs not much space to walk and sometimes it bothered others so you couldnt.

JM: How often did you get to go outside? What did you do outside if you were allowed to? If you were not allowed to go outside what could you do for exercise?
Rachel: I think it was once a week to go outside if it rained or we were not allowed you just did nothing. I would read a lot.

JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held?
Rachel: Yes they did. I did not attend church though. I am a baptist and I had my own bible and beliefs.
