Pre-sentencing

Interview with Paul

JM: Tell us about the pre-sentencing process:
Paul: Pre sentencing took forever had to be arraigned than waited for another hearing, I didn't bail out but had a bail hearing and was released on my own recognisense, was supposed to show up for court and decided not to so they put out a warrant than I got caught and sat in jail for 8 and a half months till trial

JM: Did you have police stop by your house for questioning? If not please give us details on how you came to be arrested.
Paul: No there was already a warrant for my arrest they saw me walking down the street than swarmed me, was questioned at the Clifton heights police department, at which point I kept my mouth shut and did not give them any information, so they shipped me off to jail to wait for hearings

JM: What was court like? Please give as many details as you recall.
Paul: All of the hearings were quickly done, I had no idea what was happening because the hearings were so fast, sit in a tiny holding cell in media courthouses basement with up to 10 other inmates. I took a deal so I didn't have trial and never went thru that process, I shouldn't have taken the deal however I was young and just wanted to get out that day, they really had no evidence and threatened me wit up to 10 years in jail had I lost the trial, but I was guilty anyway so whatever

JM: What were your original charges? What did you end up being convicted of?
Paul: My original charge was burglary
