Interview with April, Julie, Brenda, Cesar and Eddie
JM: What else would you want a friend or family member to know if they have a loved one going to this jail? April: Be as much of a support system as possible.
There is nothing to do which leads to
unnecessary drama and arguments. Send them
money, if you can afford a TV that's very
helpful. Visit as much as possible because
mail and visits are golden there. Julie: it's not that bad. we got sent there for a reason.
we do need help but we have to help ourselves and do
the right thing. help us help ourselves. Brenda: You have no control over anything. Don't give
the officers a hard time. Stay to yourself.
Don't tell anyone your personal business. Don't
give anyone anything. Once you start the inmates
will know and you cant stop. Cesar: always have contact with them if not then they
were lose they selves mentally physically
spiritually . always have phone calls and visits
and last but not least they need money for
commissary so make it through with nice hygiene
and food to last them when meals are not
pleasing . not that this is a five star stay but
that its better to go through hard times with
loved ones then go through it alone Eddie: It is not as bad as television makes it seem, If
you stick to a healthy routine and try to stay
busy the time can go by fairly quick and easy.
JM: If somebody knows they will be serving time in this jail what is your advice to them? April: Stay out of the drama, some people are there
with the intent to get other people in
trouble because they don't care about their
time. Stay away from the gossip, everyone
isn't your friend. In fact there's no friends
in jail. People will switch up on you to save
themselves in a heart beat. Most importantly
do your time don't let your time do you. Go
to classes and learn something to better
yourself. Julie: don't rely on anybody else to tell you what the
rules are or what happens when. READ THE HANDBOOK!
ASK YOUR COUNSELORS! it is so east to do well in the
work release program. do what you are supposed to.
It doesn't have to be that bad. Don't get in the
cliques, it'll get you nowhere fast! DO YOU! Brenda: Same as above
You have no control over anything. Don't give
the officers a hard time. Stay to yourself.
Don't tell anyone your personal business. Don't
give anyone anything. Once you start the inmates
will know and you cant stop. Cesar: keep you nose clean and out the hole and be a
role model so you can get out on good time and do
a couple months less then you have too ... Eddie: Stay calm it is not the end of the world. Try to
take care of all the things you can while you are
out so you have less worries while you are
incarcerated.
