Interview with April, Julie, Brenda, Cesar and Eddie
JM: Did you always have access to necessary medications? April: No, the medical staff is horrible. Julie: You could have some medicines in your locker,
tylenol, benedryl... prescription meds were locked
and meds called at specific times. Brenda: I was on over 60 medications. Cesar: no not at all . only medical . Eddie: Med calls happened during each block out which is
the time you receive your prescribed medication.
JM: How did you get your medications? April: A nurse would come on to the unit, you would
have to wait in line with your ID badge, and
a cup of water and get it. Julie: they called for meds and you took your id and your
cup and got in line. there was a med locker and they
were dispensed by co by prescription. Brenda: When I was admitted to LCP they ask you for your
medication list. They would verify this
information and you would just get your
prescribed medications. Cesar: by going to medical on the pass giving . or they
came to the block to pass out meds ... Eddie: Through a nurse with a medicine cart during the
assigned med calls. If there was an emergency you
would be sent to see a doctor or nurse who worked
in the prison.
JM: What types of punishments were incurred for abuse of drugs? Did you ever witness this? April: If you abused medication either yours or
someone else's you would go to the hole for
however long they think is necessarily fit
for your write up.I haven't seen this happen. Julie: I saw inmates that were sent back to the main prison
for hot urines, alcohol use. but because it was a
treatment facility some might stay or come back
after 30 days. Brenda: Some inmates would be benzo's (xanax, valium,
etc.) so people would spit this in their cup when
taking medications. They would give it to
someone else on the pod so they could get high.
If they were caught they would go to the hole.
Yes, I was witness of this. Cesar: no but im only guessing they went to the hole .
for doing such matter . its not cool . some
people that abused it really did call of drug
addiction . Eddie: Abuse of drugs resulted in getting sent to the
whole for an undetermined amount of time I saw
several people who were caught with medicine that
didnt belong to them receive this punishment.
