Interview with Lola, Eve, Pat, Peter, Al, Trevor and Camille

JM: How many different blocks were there?
Lola: 2 different "block" sides
Eve: Not sure.
Pat: c and b block two very small blocks a and d then h block the gym? i think they changed that then there was the blocks right down the way from h block then ther was outmate i think that was it
Peter: at least 5 blocks minimum I didnt learn every inch of the prison. The prison also houses females in their own sections and blocks separated from males ( no contact EVER for safety etc etc)
Al: there werre not many books available
Trevor: like 6 or 7 including the girl pod
Camille: I think there were five different blocks.

JM: Did they have names? If so, what were they?
Lola: Not on the women's side
Eve: There was the gym, which I believe was called "G". There was an A, B, C which is Pre-Class, H. There were probably more. There was also the outmate.
Pat: a,b,c,d,h,out mate
Peter: Block were named alphabetically. the ones I knew of were A B C D E F ( males) and G H I J (females) and K for male work release and L for Female work release.
Al: i only read 2 books the exorcist and janis joplin so i wouldnt know
Trevor: old north new north old south dorms new south echo block g block or g dorm work release
Camille: G Dorm, which is where I was; H is another place women stay long-term and then the maximum area for women who are a physical threat to others. Then there is the sick area, I can't remember the name of that one and the hole. The other area is for women who initially arrive in the jail and the administration is trying to determine where to place them.

JM: Which types of inmates were housed in the different blocks?
Lola: Men's side had several blocks, not sure of their names.
Eve: There was supposed to be minimum security, medium security and maximum security, but it seemed wherever there was an open bed you were put. In my block, there were immigration people, people in for fines, first-timers, probation violators, murderers, etc. There is a medical unit if you need to be and then there was BAU, which was the "hole".
Pat: h block was for minimum a.b.c.d. was for maximum
Peter: Inmates were house by classifications that included gang affiliations, weather the charges are drug, violence, or other natured charges, as well as to how many were on each block....over flow caused cross classification at times.
Al: there were all types according to there crime in my case there were shoplifters and people with duis and drug possesion also people with simple assault and petty thefts also
Trevor: new blocks and dorms are min to med security old blocks and echo are for med to max and repeat offenders echo is for murderers and all. and the g dorms are where all the woman go.
Camille: G Dorm is for non-violent offenders, mostly women who are in jail for the first time or so. The majority of these women had theft or drug charges. H Block is for women who have been in the jail many times. They have some kind of behavior problem I think -- mostly verbally aggressive. The maximum area is for women with gun charges, murder or have proven themselves capable of physical aggression. Then, the sick area is for anyone sick, pregnant or coming off of suicide watch.

JM: What do you remember being the nicest and worst parts about the different blocks?
Lola: No blocks on womens side
Eve: Pre-Class was the worst because of being locked down so much every day. The rest of the blocks weren't that bad unless they punished the entire block for one person's actions.
Pat: h block had micrwaves and down the way did also a.c.b.d. did not they only had the t.v's
Peter: There really was not a "nicer" part of the block. it was dirty then either very hot or cold, loud and competitive. There were always some sort of verbal arguments going on over stuff like card games or what was to be watched on TV as well as there was a lot of "Bullying" by the so called tougher inmates such as taking some ones meal trays or bullying some one of their whole commissary orders
Al: nicest is having a microwave and ping pong table and they would show movies at night. the worst was it was dirty especially the shower area. alot of people are lazy and dont want to clean so i would take it upon myself to clean the dirty areas and some people would help me
Trevor: one guy whom we looked out for eachother and worst part was being treated such a way and not being able to do anything about it. the lack of control to change what shouldn't be. to see you wife through a glass for simple driving charges. I feel someone needs to look into this place.
Camille: I can only tell you that when you arrive in the jail and wait to be placed, the worst thing is being locked down 23 hours a day. The nicest thing...nothing. G Dorm - the worst thing is the god-awful noise. Ninety-eight women in an old gym with high ceilings??? Ugh. The noise was horrible. The nicest thing -- nothing. (UM...I HATED JAIL!) The sick area -- the worst thing -- locked down 23 hours a day and the quack-ass dr's assistant. The nicest thing...drumroll...nothing. :)
