Telephones

Interview with Tonya

JM: Did you have regular access to telephones?
Tonya: Only at certain times of the day

JM: What types of charges applied for calling people? How much money would you guess the average inmate spends per week on phone calls?
Tonya: As I recall a 20 minute conversation was under 1.00. You would need money in your inmate account and have to transfer it to the company that ran the pay phones in order to use them. Varied weekly seeing that some people used the phone the entire time allowed which actually could add up for a weeks time.

JM: Did you need to buy phone cards to call out?
Tonya: No, you were not allowed phone cards

JM: Did the jail screen your calls?
Tonya: They had the ability to but not sure if it was constant.
