Leisure Time

Interview with Karina and Taylor

JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time?
Karina: They had church services every night. TV, a trolley with a bunch of donated books, games, combs (you could do hair and get your hair done).
Taylor: none.

JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce? Give details.
Karina: Everything is first come first serve.
Taylor: i had regular access to everything. there were multiple decks of cards, multiple games.. everybody liked the same shows..

JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail?
Karina: Yes. For me, I was just being lazy. I wasn't exercising and I was eating more than normal. I was one week postpartum when I was locked up.
Taylor: well heck no the food was hard to get down.

JM: How often did you get to go outside? What did you do outside if you were allowed to? If you were not allowed to go outside what could you do for exercise?
Karina: You could go outside every day during rec. Their definition of outside is there is a cylinder wall with a net above the wall where you could see the sky through the net.
Taylor: we got to go outside everyday.

JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held?
Karina: Yes, every night.
Taylor: yes they did every sunday and Wednesday. they were held in our pod.
