JM: How many meals did you get per day? Seth: you would get 3 a day Ellen: YOU GET THREE SMALL MEALS A DAY Isaac: They served three meals a day.
JM: How would you rate the food? Please give details of why. Seth: cold the food would be nasty and by the time you
get it to the dorm it would be cold and nasty then
when it got there it might take 10 or 15 minutes
to get the food served because the officers would
be so slow and they did not care Ellen: THE FOOD WAS REALLY HARD TO EAT. I HAD TO FORCE
MYSELF TO EAT ON SOME DAYS. YOU HAVE TO SO YOU
DON'T LOSE A LOT OF WEIGHT. NO SALT OR PEPPER,
EVERY ONCE IN AWHILE SURPRISINGLY WE WOULD GET
MUSTARD OR A REAL PIECE OF CHICKEN AND THAT WAS A
DELICACY Isaac: The food was pretty bad and not very filling.
There was little done to enhance the flavor of the
food so everything was kind of bland. The portions
were very small. The meat was indistinguishable at
times and had a consistency of rubber. Most meals
would come with some type of bread which was often
stale.
JM: Did you have any favorite/least favorite meals? Seth: i had to eat or you would starve but if i had to
choose my favorite it would be chicken because i
was on a special diet because of my heart problems
and the food i did not like was meatloaf Ellen: THE CHICKEN LEG MEAL WAS THE FAVORITE MEAL AND WE'D
GET THAT MAYBE ONCE A MONTH. THE LEAST WAS A LIVER
MACARONI. YUCK! Isaac: I disliked all of the food that I was served while
in Richland county. Sometimes they would serve
chicken which was close to actually being
enjoyable, but not quite.
JM: Were there any other snacks offered outside of meals? What was commissary like and how expensive was it? Seth: the only snacks a person would get was at night if
you were diabetic had aids or any other diease
that required you to get a snack bag to your dorm
and they looked good Ellen: NO SNACKS WERE GIVEN UNLESS YOU HAD HEALTH ISSUES
LIKE DIABETES. CANTEEN WASN'T EXPENSIVE AT ALL BUT
NO DRINKS WERE OFFERED AT ALL, NO SODA!! A CANDY
BAR WAS AROUND A DOLLAR AND SHOES TEN DOLLARS. IT
WASN'T HIGH DOLLAR Isaac: Snack items could be purchased from the canteen by
inmates who had money on their account. Most of
these items were things that could be found in any
convenience store: cookies, chips, etc. Everything
was price slightly over what it would cost in the
free world.
