Inmates

Interview with Anne

JM: Did you find it difficult to get along with other inmates? Please give examples to explain why you did or didn't.
Anne: There were some inmates that were easier to get along with than others. I wasn't there to make friends, so I didn't go out of my way to be friendly to all of them.

JM: What types of things did you have to do to avoid problems or fights with other inmates?
Anne: I just normally kept to myself. There were several incidents where words were exchanged, and I wanted no part of it. So if I didn't like things that were being said, I didn't give them the satisfaction of me voicing my opinion. I just shrugged it out and continued doing what I was doing.

JM: Were you able to choose an inmate as your cellmate if you knew one? How often would your cellmate(s) change?
Anne: No, I don't even think that is possible-- plus I didn't even know anyone while I was in the jail.
