Leisure Time

Interview with Alicia

JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time?
Alicia: no facilities were available to help pass any time. I either slept, or just stared at the wall and then slept while keeping one eye open to make sure no one was going to harm me so it was very difficult to even sleep out of fear of harm. Staring and sleeping thats it.

JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce? Give details.
Alicia: There was no entertainment in the general population either you were lucky enough to have someone to talk to or you are left staring at the wall or sleeping, again, if i could sleep out of fear of harm from the other inmates that were in there with me. Its scary

JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail?
Alicia: Yes it was very hard staying in shape while i was in jail as you just sit in the cell.

JM: How often did you get to go outside? What did you do outside if you were allowed to? If you were not allowed to go outside what could you do for exercise?
Alicia: There is no outside at this jail, you just stay in the cell the entire time you are there. I did not get to do anything for exercise.

JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held?
Alicia: No the jail did not offer church services or even a Bible to read, there is nothing to do except sit and wait.
