Telephones

Interview with Tim, Sherri and Brett

JM: Did you have regular access to telephones?
Tim: Yes, as long as your family had a land line, not a cell phone.
Sherri: No not until I got to medical then I had one in the room with me.
Brett: No they had one phone in the cell and it didn't work

JM: What types of charges applied for calling people? How much money would you guess the average inmate spends per week on phone calls?
Tim: We were only allowed 15 minutes at a time, and my parents would normally have to spend 80-100 dollars just for me to call them.
Sherri: I spent 15.00 bc I was trying to find out about the lawyer situation. In prison in got higher. Depends on their families and how much is on their books.
Brett: It was very expensive and only the really rich could afford it so no one really ever used it

JM: Did you need to buy phone cards to call out?
Tim: They were available but not necessary if your family set it up on the outside.
Sherri: It came off our books like commissary
Brett: Yes that's the crazy part and in one five minute call was bout 10 dollars

JM: Did the jail screen your calls?
Tim: Yes, and if you said anything they took as a threat they would take you to suicide watch.
Sherri: Of course they did and then talked about ur calls afterwards.
Brett: Yes I think so really not for sue
