Inmates

Interview with Carlos

JM: Did you find it difficult to get along with other inmates? Please give examples to explain why you did or didn't.
Carlos: Yes I did . I would have gotten terribly beaten up if I had not known a person of substantial importance. The reason being is that I had came from El Paso Texas and Laredo and El Paso are different locations for waring drug gangs.

JM: What types of things did you have to do to avoid problems or fights with other inmates?
Carlos: To avoid fights in Laredo county you have to know somebody involved in the drug game, or be related to someone. This is from an outsiders perspective, not from that city equals big problems. But if you are in Laredo jail, speaking spanish and having a good sense of humor goes a long way. Stay clean avoid passing gas around people, do that in the toilet area.

JM: Were you able to choose an inmate as your cellmate if you knew one? How often would your cellmate(s) change?
Carlos: In this county the inmates assign the bunk you are to be sleeping in if you know an inmate you are in good hands because laredo is small and everyone knows everyone. He or she will more than likely be familiar with the what to do's and school you as to what not to do.
