Leisure Time

Interview with Dave and Julian

JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time?
Dave: They had a TV with basic channels. They kept in on until midnight. They also had board games, checkers, chess and cards. Your family could bring you games if you wanted.
Julian: TV- just don't try and change the channel

JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce? Give details.
Dave: It was pretty much always available. Some of those games were worn down and missing pieces cause people have no respect for things. There was a remote for the TV and we voted on what to watch but there was also some fights over that too.
Julian: No respect for books or anything. Don't cause trouble by arguing over tv. not worth it

JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail?
Dave: We could go to and indoor gym to workout or exercise anytime we wanted to.
Julian: Nope there is a gym to use.

JM: How often did you get to go outside? What did you do outside if you were allowed to? If you were not allowed to go outside what could you do for exercise?
Dave: No outside there at all

JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held?
Dave: They had every services sunday. Some church volunteer would come in and read from the bible and preach.
