Inmates

Interview with Scott

JM: Did you find it difficult to get along with other inmates? Please give examples to explain why you did or didn't.
Scott: I did not find it easy to get along with the other inmates. The different backgrounds and origins caused many conflicts. People from the same neighborhood tended to hang together and I wsnt from any of the neighborhoods.

JM: What types of things did you have to do to avoid problems or fights with other inmates?
Scott: I was forced to make friends with people I might not otherwise associate with. I also exercised a lot of caution and patience which I don't normally do. I made phone calls for some of the other inmates using the money on my account and bought some people snacks with my commissary account.

JM: Were you able to choose an inmate as your cellmate if you knew one? How often would your cellmate(s) change?
Scott: It depended on who was in charge. Depending on who the CO was there was some lienency but most times you are not allowed to chooose your cellmate.
