Inmates

Interview with Matthew

JM: Did you find it difficult to get along with other inmates? Please give examples to explain why you did or didn't.
Matthew: Nope. Everyone in there was too busy being mad at the government, the police, guards, and the people who put them there. For the most part, jail's about respect. Go in there and respect people, and they'll be civil towards you.

JM: What types of things did you have to do to avoid problems or fights with other inmates?
Matthew: Just mind your own business. Don't ask too many questions, and don't disrespect people. There was one fight when I was in there about what channel the TV was on. One guy wanted to watch Man Vs. Wild, and the other decided he'd change the channel to basketball, and talk trash about the other dude. Other dude just wasn't havin' it.

JM: Were you able to choose an inmate as your cellmate if you knew one? How often would your cellmate(s) change?
Matthew: Choose? What does this question mean?
