Leisure Time

Interview with Darlene, Ryan and Janis

JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time?
Darlene: There is a rec area outside, you can have 1 hour rec per day at the designated time. There is a multi-purpose room, which is the jail library.
Ryan: Nothing that I know of, besides tv.
Janis: Yard, books, TV, cards, drawing, ect.

JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce? Give details.
Darlene: There is a tv that can be used from 6am-10pm. There was no competition for the tv because everyone just get's used to watching the same thing dqaily, you get into a sort of routine that way.
Ryan: About 3 to 4 hours a day.
Janis: No, we had regular access.

JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail?
Darlene: Yes, I did have a hard time staying in shape due to lack of exercise and the food being nothing but carbs.
Ryan: Yes.
Janis: N/A.

JM: How often did you get to go outside? What did you do outside if you were allowed to? If you were not allowed to go outside what could you do for exercise?
Darlene: Once a day for one hour a day.
Ryan: Not once.
Janis: 1 hr a day, handball.

JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held?
Darlene: Every Sunday a couple people came in from a local church for an 1/2. Church was held in the muli-purpose room
Ryan: I don't believe so. If they did, they didn't tell me.
Janis: Not sure.
