JM: Did you have regular access to telephones?
Erik: Yes, you have to pay to use them. Your family
has to put money in a machine and you get a pin
number. Someone on the outside has to do that
for you. You get one free minute when you first
get there and that's it.
JM: What types of charges applied for calling people? How much money would you guess the average inmate spends per week on phone calls?
Erik: Since all my family is in Illinois its $10 per
phone call. If you are calling within Wisconsin
its $3 a phone call.
JM: Did you need to buy phone cards to call out?
Erik: No.
JM: Did the jail screen your calls?
Erik: Yes, every call.
