Leisure Time

Interview with Howard

JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time?
Howard: There was an indoor gym. They had some weights, an old treadmill and bicycle. And a TV.

JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce? Give details.
Howard: Big sign said you had to ask the attendant to change the channels so that's who you had to ask.

JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail?
Howard: I'm not in shaper anyways so I spent most of my time sleeping or reading magazines. They had magazines.

JM: How often did you get to go outside? What did you do outside if you were allowed to? If you were not allowed to go outside what could you do for exercise?
Howard: There was a courtyard and you could go outside. They let you out for an hour in the morning and another hour in the afternoon.

JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held?
Howard: First thing they hand you is a phamplet about what services they had but I never went.
