Medications

Interview with Raymond, Brenda, Reta, Ronnie, Germz and Jimmy

JM: Did you always have access to necessary medications?
Raymond: Absolutley if you needed it.
Brenda: no!!! medical at camp sucks because you had to go back to CIW in chino which was three hours away if you had to go to the dr. and medical runs were every friday. If there was an emergency you went to the local clinic.
Reta: Yes. All you have to do is fill out inmate reuqest form for anything you wanted... doctor visit, dentist, see the warden or whatever.
Ronnie: Yeah. That's wasn't problem.
Germz: kind of, you have to fill out a form and hope to be seen in a short time. it usually takes a few days to be seen
Jimmy: Yes, although it took far too long for my contact lens solution to get through the system.

JM: How did you get your medications?
Raymond: They pass out the meds depending on the prescriptions, maybe 2 or 3 times a day.
Brenda: from the dr on medical runs
Reta: 3x a day morning, afternoon and evening.
Ronnie: They had pill call three times a day and they would bring it to you.
Germz: the nurse would come by at a certain time of day and call out your name and you go get them
Jimmy: There was a pill call twice a day and we were given our medications through the bars by very friendly nurses.

JM: What types of punishments were incurred for abuse of drugs? Did you ever witness this?
Raymond: They would just slap you with a new charge and add to your time.
Brenda: you would get an infraction and loss of time and if you were in camp you would be sent back to prison CIW
Reta: In most cases that meant rolling your stuff up and going to another dorm which meant less activities.
Ronnie: Usually they would put a guy in lock down for a couple of days if they caught him being high.
Germz: if your caught under the influence you lose 90 to 120 days of good time . if your caught with them you get a new charge.
Jimmy: I don't think the staff could give a shit about drug abuse as long as there was no commotion. I never saw anyone punished.
