Leisure Time

Interview with Stacy, Ron and Tom

JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time?
Stacy: I borrowed some books from cell mate to read to pass some of my time, but they also had a tv and I'm sure they had classes of some sort you could take
Ron: There was a TV. THere were board games. There was a workout station. THere was a ping pong table but it wasnt always supplied with a ping pong ball. People with commisary were able to cook thier food with the boiling water spigot. You could read as well. There was a limited supply of books.
Tom: There were the Workshops, the meetings, providing books, the outdoor small gym to play basketball, to exercise, or to walk around. We also had chess boards to keep ourselves busy. We had tvs to watch the tv shows, and the movies at the nighttimes. There's also the visiting hours for the inmates and their families.

JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce? Give details.
Stacy: We were aloud tv sometimes but you had to watch what other people wanted to watch
Ron: There was a form of competition for things. If you waited long enough however there was a chance to take advantage of each form of entertainment. Thats all i have to say. thats all I have to say. Thats all I have to say. Thats all I have to say.

JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail?
Stacy: Yes it was hard. The food they served didn't really help.
Ron: Im naturally slim and athletic, plus I have a high metabolisim, so it wasnt to difficult to stay fit. Others however seemed to maybe be having a hard time.
Tom: No, I kept myself busy by playing basketball, and did some exercises. The prison food isn't that great, so I lose some pounds.

JM: How often did you get to go outside? What did you do outside if you were allowed to? If you were not allowed to go outside what could you do for exercise?
Stacy: Not very maybe once a week if everyone was good, and it wasn't really even outside, it was a room you could play ball or something, socialize, with the clear roof so you get the illusion your outside.
Ron: Maybe twice a week. THere was a hoop and a ball. There was also a handball wall where games took place. THere was still that workout station in the pod thought.
Tom: We can go outside anytime before the sunset. I played basketball as well as exercised. I sometime walked around if there's no jailer to provide a basketball ball.

JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held?
Stacy: I'm not sure I didn't look into that
Ron: THey did but im not sure where they took place as I didnt use those services. It was outside of the pod however.
Tom: I don't recall seeing a church service. I do know they provide the Bibles, Quran/Korans, and others for us to read to keep up with our faith.
