Meals

Interview with Jennifer, Robert, Kathleen, Holly, Damon and Wade

JM: How many meals did you get per day?
Jennifer: you get 3 meals per day. 5:30 is breakfast, 11:00 is lunch and 3-4:00 is dinner.
Robert: you get 3 meals a day
Kathleen: You got up to three meals a day
Holly: You received 3 a day.
Damon: we got 3 meals and some times a bag with a sandwich and an apple.
Wade: I received in my time two meals, a lunch meal of a bologna sandwich which was surprisingly not terrible, and a dinner meal which I skipped but was not entirely un-appetsing.

JM: How would you rate the food? Please give details of why.
Jennifer: I would rate the food as a 0 being the worst. I wouldnt even give the food to my dog to eat. It looks like someone threw it up and put it on a plate. the food is very poorly looking and smeels awful. I couldnt imagine eating this food everyday.
Robert: 0 they have the worst food in america prolly the whole world. they look like dog food and smell very bad. I try not to eat the jail food when I am there because of it being so nasty. I try to get comissary and eat that instead of the jail made food.
Kathleen: If I had to rate the food I would give it a 2 sometimes it was okay and at other times it was gross. Sometimes it would be cold or undone moldy or just not edible looking at all. I used didn't eat the food I always had noodles or snacks.
Holly: the food was horrible I wouldn't even feed it too my dog it looked like scraps just thrown on a plate it wasn't even hot or seasoned it had an odor breakfast was never good I just would sleep through breakfast the juice would die the floors so I definently wasn't drinking that
Damon: I would rate the food a 5 . although some food was bearable , I dont think any of it tasted good. its more like over time you just get used to it and your tastes buds just give in. the food does fill you up and keep you from being too hungry if you dont have commissary.
Wade: For lunches I would give a 8/10 because expectacions upon going to jail are so low, a bologna and cheese sandwich is a regular meal for me. As for dinner, I did not partake, but I witnessed an inmate who thoroughly enjoyed 3 such meals of the dinner, so generally from my experience Baltimore County Jails are not terrible. Many former inmates of County Jail recommend the food to any other previous jail.

JM: Did you have any favorite/least favorite meals?
Jennifer: I really didnt like any meals from the jail they were all very nasty you had to add salt, pepper, and sugar to everything you ate.
Robert: I didnt have any favorite meals they were all my least favorite meals. the soup on comissary was the best.
Kathleen: No I didn't have any favorite meals and all of them were the least favorite . Jail food just isn't edible looking.
Holly: All the meals were my least favorite it was the worst food I have ever seen in my life I wouldn't feed that too my dog.
Damon: my favorite meals were the chicken and the breakfast trays . my least favourite was the fish patty because it was disgusting.
Wade: I enjoy bologna and cheese on a regular basis in the free world and the offered version was very solid in my opinion, I regret not trying the dinner meal.

JM: Were there any other snacks offered outside of meals? What was commissary like and how expensive was it?
Jennifer: Yes there was snacks if you bought them off of commissary. like soups, chips, candy, coffee and a whole lot more. the commissary was kind of expensive it was 1.25 for a thing of soup. it was only 1 so for the whole week you would need like 20-30 dollars to get everything you need.
Robert: yes you had to buy them on commissary and the comissary was expensive. me being in there only a week i didnt buy commissary. but the commissary was very expensive and you could buy like 27 things of different food for the week.
Kathleen: Yes they provided commissary. They offered a lot on commissary and the prices for reasonable for me but for others they weren't. You only got to spend a certain amount which I didn't like to much because since I didn't eat the food the jail served I would eat my commissary a lot. Commissary was always late .
Holly: no there were no snacks outside of meals commissary seemed cool to me based on the other gurls I'm not sure of the price I never purchased commissary and didn't hear anyone complaining anything is better than jail food.
Damon: the snacks were mostly handed through commissary. the commissary had snacks like chips and candy , juice packs , meat , packs of noodles , paper , pens , and other basic items like soap and other toiletries.
Wade: Snacks and commissary items are offered frequently to those who can afford it, but generally inmates i have talked to express dis-interest in commissary items due to the price influx and general mediocre portions and poor quality of such "vending machine" items.
