Good Behavior

Interview with Shawanda Miller, Chuck, Charles, Josh and Jeremy

JM: Did you get off early based on good behavior?
Shawanda Miller: Generally you get 10 days off per month for good behavior as long as you didn't have any problems with the guards or other inmates. Also, if you signed up for STS you also get credit for that time also, so you are able to reduce your sentence. I got out 1 month early between good behavior and STS.
Chuck: I did. I signed up for trustee program.
Charles: yes. I always received 1/3 off for my good time
Josh: I did not get off early due to good behavior. I got off early because my family fought for my release and I think the jail was really full and they where tired of my bullshit.

JM: What is the most time off you can receive for good behavior?
Shawanda Miller: 10 days per month
Jeremy: i am told in Minnesota you do 2/3 of your sentence. So if you are sentenced to one year you will do 8 months of it.
Chuck: When you're a trustete for every two days of work you got one day off your sentence.
Charles: In Dakota county you will receive 1/3 off for good time, however if an inmate becomes a trustee worker then it is possible to earn a little more time off.
Josh: You can earn 1/3 of your time off for good behavior after sentancing.

JM: What types of actions do you need to avoid in order to get time off? Did you ever witness somebody losing time off for good behavior?
Shawanda Miller: Fights, smoking, contraband.
Jeremy: Just stay out of trouble!
Chuck: Follow the rules, avoid conversations with inmates. You're not supposed to be talking to inmates when your a trustees. Do your job.
Charles: You just have to follow the rules and keep to your circle of friends. I've witnessed several people losing their good time and enjoyed watching it.
Josh: To get good behavior you have to follow all of the rules. No fighting no backtalking to the guards. Just keep your head down and do everything you are told and avoid trouble makers.
