Inmates

Interview with Katy, Sarah and Laura

JM: Did you find it difficult to get along with other inmates? Please give examples to explain why you did or didn't.
Katy: No, not really, just a couple who were difficult roomates.
Sarah: I did not. i was initially in isolation due to detox, then was transitioned to population after 3 weeks. I was involved in one argument where another inmate hit me, without cause or warning. They were placed in isolation I was not.
Laura: At first I did but I was a mess. I was coming off of drugs, people immediately talk about you just cause your the "new kid". But after a week or so I got a long with everyone pretty well. Meet a lot of people and we just try to make the best of the situation.

JM: What types of things did you have to do to avoid problems or fights with other inmates?
Katy: I just stayed to myself. I did a lot of drawing.
Sarah: Keep to yourself, maintain personal items in your posession or close by, do not interact on a personal level. was involved in one argument where another inmate hit me, without cause or warning. They were placed in isolation I was not. This was the only issue I had. I ignored her, and I was fine.
Laura: I wasn't the type of person to avoid fights. I wouldn't start them either though. I talked who I wanted to talk to and laugh as loud as I wanted to. I got into a few arguments because I stand up for my friends. I would be more patient when it came to using the phone though. But I always made sure everyone knew who was next to use it

JM: Were you able to choose an inmate as your cellmate if you knew one? How often would your cellmate(s) change?
Katy: No, they just stick you with whoever they want to put you with.
Sarah: I was not allowed to have a cellmate due to being "highrisk". I was placed in isolation due to detox and being considered suicidal. I was changed from one pod to another once.
Laura: No, in Clermont the women's wing is high security so we weren't allowed to have bunkies. I got my own cell. There were new people who had to sleep on bunks in the main pod, but I knew the people so I didn't have to
