Amy: No, I did not. Life On the Inside Just as the Miami nightlife offers up many options for residents and tourists, the Miami County Jail actually offers up many options for inmates to better themselves. In fact, many of the programs implemented at the Miami County Jail have become models for the rest of the country. One such program is the Boot Camp which is a rigorous situation for offenders from 18-24 to find themselves in. As you might expect by the title, Boot Camp closely resembles army training but in this case, the inmates are taught the benefits of bringing discipline and order to their lives. They are also given greater reduction off of their sentences. Life After Miami County Jail On the way out of Miami County Jail inmates can take advantage of the Reentry Unit which provides counseling services to help make the transition back into normal society. This can mean help with housing, job resumes and other forms of counseling. There are also many education and vocational training programs available to inmates. For those inmates staying in the general population, each one is allowed to spend up to $125 per week on commissary purchases. Additionally, inmates can watch TV, plays cards or dominoes or read a book from the jail library. Good Behavior Policy With so many programs to take advantage of an inmate is encourage to keep themselves busy. This also has the added benefit of allowing up to 10 days to be taken off each month of served time. That can certainly add up quickly and result in 1/3 of the overall sentence being set aside. Visit and Telephone Policy In order for an inmate to make a call, the person they are calling needs to have a phone account set up with the GTL AdvancePay Customer Service Department. Visitors heading into the Miami County Jail could be subjected to a metal detector, frisk and even dog sniffing. They will also have to present an approved state issue picture ID. Visitors could be turned away if the outfit they are wearing isn't deemed appropriate. This could also mean wearing any type of outfit that resembles a guard's uniform.
