Interview with Megan

JM: Did you have regular access to telephones?
Megan: There were two phones for between 24 and 30 women. Sometimes access was not a problem. "Peak" times could be troublesome and cause for conflict.

JM: What types of charges applied for calling people? How much money would you guess the average inmate spends per week on phone calls?
Megan: Calling costs were simply outrageous. I believe the charges averaged out to about $5 for a 15 minute call. I would say on average, at least $50/week.

JM: Did you need to buy phone cards to call out?
Megan: Yes. Phone cards could be ordered once a week.

JM: Did the jail screen your calls?
Megan: According to the recording, yes.
