JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time? Nate: watching t.v. playing chess, checkes and card and
going out to the yard when they felt like letting
you out, they also had a gym they they let us go
to once a month if they felt like it.they also
had a base ball field which we didn't get to use
much.
JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce? Give details. Nate: everyone fights over everything,I never in my
life seen so many men fighting over a t.v. to
watch cartoons,if they were that interested in
cartoons they would have never been in jail, the
blacks cant seem to go a day without them, the
games such as chess was a hot item and very bad
fights broke out over this item
JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail? Nate: Yes,the food has no protein in it because the
guards don't want you to overpower them if a riot
breaks out, doing lots of pushups was the only
thing to combat this.
JM: How often did you get to go outside? What did you do outside if you were allowed to? If you were not allowed to go outside what could you do for exercise? Nate: they let us go outsde once a week and most of us
just stood around talking to each other, they let
two different blocks out at one time and yes
fights broke out a lot.
JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held? Nate: the church service was held in the gym,you could
go just about every night which was a very
peaceful time, this is about the only time people
got along.
