JM: Did you find it difficult to get along with other inmates? Please give examples to explain why you did or didn't. Sean: First ten days was rough. Had several bullies to
harrass me. They were making alcohol in the jail
and new inmates come in with drugs and a
cellphone. Apparently good friend of the trouble
makers. I tried to stick to myself, however I did
have a couple inmates that were decent to me.
JM: What types of things did you have to do to avoid problems or fights with other inmates? Sean: Tried to stick to myself. Avoided conflicts by
trying to fit in. Acted as if I was asleep when
they got drunk, thats when they wanted to fight.
I also jumped in to help on the daily cleaning
of cell. I really think this gained some respect
because I was helping to keep place clean.
JM: Were you able to choose an inmate as your cellmate if you knew one? How often would your cellmate(s) change? Sean: No. We origially was in a "pod" of 30 beds. Some
of the rowdy ones stripp[ed wiring from overhead
lighting to make something to boil water. They
had a name for that contraption, but I forgot
what they called it. Anyway, the LT. was PISSED
and sent us all into the yard in late Feb.to
wait for trustees to move our stuff to max
security 1. These were cells of 6 inmates and
you got out 1 hour a day for excercise/showers
and phone calls. The funnynest thing happened
while we were waiting in the cold to go to our
other cells. The LT. was out interagating
everone and cussing us. He had a teargas shotgun
and was theatening us. He actually fired it
above the heads of 4 of the correctional
officers to show us it was real, and when he did
the gas got all over the officers and they were
crying and scirming around trying to act tough.
It was quite amusing. I was transfered to
the "new jail" after four days in this
hellhole.
