Interview with Natalie

JM: Did you have regular access to telephones?
Natalie: Yes, each cell had a bank of three to four phones in it.

JM: What types of charges applied for calling people? How much money would you guess the average inmate spends per week on phone calls?
Natalie: The base charges were around three dollars a call, and then the per minute surcharge was around a dollar for local calls.

JM: Did you need to buy phone cards to call out?
Natalie: Yes; however, I did not make any calls from the cell.

JM: Did the jail screen your calls?
Natalie: Since I only made my initial call when I was being processed in, I do not know.
