Inmates

Interview with Paul

JM: Did you find it difficult to get along with other inmates? Please give examples to explain why you did or didn't.
Paul: The inmates were all pretty respectful. It was very hard getting use to not having your privacy and being cramped in a small area for all times of the day.

JM: What types of things did you have to do to avoid problems or fights with other inmates?
Paul: You learned to be very respectful and to keep tempers down. Everyone is on edge and not happpy with the situation they are in. Also, it was hard dealing with personal problems at home when you are in there so you tend to have lots of high tentions and people who are not happy.

JM: Were you able to choose an inmate as your cellmate if you knew one? How often would your cellmate(s) change?
Paul: You were allowed to request to move cells and it was approved by the counselor, but they would not allow just racial segregation. they wanted a mix of people in each area.
