Visitor Policy

Interview with Richard and Donna

JM: How often could you receive visitors?
Richard: Visits are twice a week. No visitors on weekends. Visits are only Tues and Thurs. The cool thing about this jail is court is just down the street, so you don't really have to do a big transport thing.
Donna: I did not receive visitors that often until my last time there because my family did not like to see me like that and I did not want my son to ever see me in a jail jumpsuit. My boyfriend came to just about every visit during my time there in 2007.

JM: Was the check-in process lengthy for those who came to see you?
Richard: No, it wasn't difficult. They were pretty good about that.
Donna: Not really, there is a small form to fill out and then you just wait for your group to be called. You had to check in 30 minutes before your visit and wait.

JM: What was the visiting environment like?
Richard: They were pretty dirty, the floors were dirty. There is glass dividing inmates from their visitors.
Donna: The visiting room sucks..There is no air being pumped in and its hot and loud. The visits are for 30 minutes and were often cut short just because they felt like it. It was not right for them to do that especially since some people did not get visits very often.
