Telephones

Interview with Allie and Jason

JM: Did you have regular access to telephones?
Allie: Yes, because I think by law they are required to let you out of your cell a minimum of 1.5 hours every 3 days. We always got out at least an hour a day.
Jason: yes we do except on Saturday night during movie tear

JM: What types of charges applied for calling people? How much money would you guess the average inmate spends per week on phone calls?
Allie: You can call either collect or buy a phone card through commissary. The cost on the phone cards is $1/minute and the collect calls were $9.99 for 10 minutes.
Jason: some could easily spend 100 busck a week i only made 1 to 2 calls a week so 6 bucks

JM: Did you need to buy phone cards to call out?
Allie: No, you can call collect. It costs about the same either way.
Jason: you did befor but now its automated

JM: Did the jail screen your calls?
Allie: Yes they were recording and/or screening the calls.
Jason: yes of course they do
