Good Behavior

Interview with Karl and Wilford

JM: Did you get off early based on good behavior?
Karl: I was released on my own recognizance after proving that I had a place waiting and ready for me to be released to.
Wilford: yes i was sentenced to 8 months and i finished my sentence in 5 months and 10 days

JM: What is the most time off you can receive for good behavior?
Karl: you are eligible to earn up to three months of good time per each year that you serve, as I understand it.
Wilford: in the county jails in nys you do 65% of your time. it comes out to 10 days a month shaved off your sentence. thats if you stay out of trouble

JM: What types of actions do you need to avoid in order to get time off? Did you ever witness somebody losing time off for good behavior?
Karl: Fighting, loud, boisterous behavior, bribing the corrections officers, "coming-on" to the female corrections officers, making any kind of threats to c.o.s or inmates, any kind of intentional sexual displays.
Wilford: fighting multiple times, getting multiple write ups, assaulting a guard would get your good time taken right away, i seen one person lose good time because they were allready in segregation for fighting and while in there he continued to cause disruptions to the jail by doing peti things such as banging on his door and writing on the wall.
