Pre-sentencing

Interview with Sheila

JM: Tell us about the pre-sentencing process:
Sheila: I spoke with my lawyer and tried to receive community service however due to my prior arrests he assured me I was able to get just 30 days for my crime. I had a job at the time so I continued to ask me to try and get me a no jail sentence.

JM: Did you have police stop by your house for questioning? If not please give us details on how you came to be arrested.
Sheila: Yes detectives came to my house about 4 months after the crime showed me a picture of myself in the store and arrested me, finger printed me I paid a $50.00 bail and was released and given a date to appear in court in about 60 days for the day I was arrested

JM: What was court like? Please give as many details as you recall.
Sheila: It was a professional procedure however it was also embarrassing for to stand there with officers standing behind me like I was a murder When the judge began to scold me about my prior arrests I started to cry because what he was saying was the truth and I knew I had to change my life style.

JM: What were your original charges? What did you end up being convicted of?
Sheila: My original charge was petty larceny and that is what I ended up being convicted of
