Inmates

Interview with Janet

JM: Did you find it difficult to get along with other inmates? Please give examples to explain why you did or didn't.
Janet: I got along with everyone for the most part. I let it be known that I was there to do my time and get good days for a shorter time there and wouldn't tolerate any non sense. but there is always a few that try to test you.

JM: What types of things did you have to do to avoid problems or fights with other inmates?
Janet: I basically stayed in my cell and read books or did drawing for others, figured if I avoided others I wouldn't have any trouble, but this makes time go by slower. I stayed in my group of people that I either knew already or knew that they were not trying to have trouble.

JM: Were you able to choose an inmate as your cellmate if you knew one? How often would your cellmate(s) change?
Janet: I did get to change my cell to be with someone that I knew. my friend had the same amount of time as me to do. we then had two others that would be in our cell at that time. and they would change weekly some daily for short timers that come in. we then got moved to a Inmate worker pod when we began the program. and it was mostly the same ones being we were all doing about the same amount of time.
