Pre-sentencing

Interview with Kurt

JM: Tell us about the pre-sentencing process:
Kurt: The pre–sentencing process was very time consuming. You wait for what seems like forever for arraignment once you get your date you appear on video court. After video court your taken back to your pod and wait weeks sometimes even months for your next court date.In my case I got lost in the system and got mistaken for someone else and was almost sent to do 2 life sentences.I was only in there for failire to appear and pay for a $20 seat belt ticket.

JM: Did you have police stop by your house for questioning? If not please give us details on how you came to be arrested.
Kurt: I was driving down highway 69 on the way to a friends house and I got pulled over. They told me I had a warrant, that's the whole reason I got pulled over.He had someone else pulled over and let them go to pull me over.I was pulled over and arrested in my friends driveway.

JM: What was court like? Please give as many details as you recall.
Kurt: Court was very long.Sitting on a bench waiting for your name to be calles. They take you out of your pod and handcuff everyone together. The judge calls your name and verifies your identity,he tells you what you are being charged with and you can choose guilty or not guilty. After that you are sent back to your pod.

JM: What were your original charges? What did you end up being convicted of?
Kurt: My charge was failure to appear and pay on a $20 seatbealt ticket.
