Inmates

Interview with Raymond

JM: Did you find it difficult to get along with other inmates? Please give examples to explain why you did or didn't.
Raymond: I had a black kid mess with me once. The place is predoinantly black and I'm this skinny white kid but they didn't know I knew martial arts. I think the kid was trying to get into a gang and so they sent him over to fight with me but I pinned him and said you do this again and you're gonna get beat. After that nobody gave me any trouble.

JM: What types of things did you have to do to avoid problems or fights with other inmates?
Raymond: nothing I had him pin on ground next time you Just stick up for yourself. Watch out for places where the cameras don't go like in the showers. If somebody wants to fight that's where they'll do it.

JM: Were you able to choose an inmate as your cellmate if you knew one? How often would your cellmate(s) change?
Raymond: Hell no, you don't pick your roommate! They assing you to a cell and there's four guys in the cell. You could pick your bed if nobody else had but that's it.
