Interview with Patrick

JM: How many different blocks were there?
Patrick: There were I think ten blocks in the city jail and like 63 in the county jail.

JM: Did they have names? If so, what were they?
Patrick: The blocks were given letters of the alphabet starting with A and ending with G times nine floors for the county jail. The city jail had the same alabetical assignment although there were only two floors. The kitchen workers and womens block were to them selves.

JM: Which types of inmates were housed in the different blocks?
Patrick: There was a block for inmates with medical and mental problems. There was one for the more disruptive inmates. And the woman were housed seperately. Other than that its just wherever they have space to put you.

JM: What do you remember being the nicest and worst parts about the different blocks?
Patrick: Considering I was in the kitchen workers block I was allowed more freedom of movement. The block was an " open " block meaning there were not individual cells which had its good and bad points. The good points are that you dont feel as confined as in the individual celled blocks but also you are open to more mischief as far as stealing goes.
