Pre-sentencing

Interview with Tim

JM: Tell us about the pre-sentencing process:
Tim: I was arrested in Oregon and had to go to other jails first. I then went to this jail so I could go to Merced County to deal with charges there.

JM: Did you have police stop by your house for questioning? If not please give us details on how you came to be arrested.
Tim: n/a

JM: What was court like? Please give as many details as you recall.
Tim: When you get booked into jail, and you are going to general population, you go to video court after a couple of days for arraignment. Then you go back to video court a few days later for a bail review. A couple days later you are taken really early in the morning to the county jail, and you sit in holding for hours and hours, and then they drive you across the street where you wait for hours and hours. If you have court at 1:30 then you are just sitting in the county jail all day long. They have court at 8:15, 10:15, 1:30. If you tell your attorney you don't want go to 1:30 court that will help. I went to court for 9 months and only spoke at the very last hearing. They don't ask you any questions or ask if you understand what is going on. It's really impersonal.

JM: What were your original charges? What did you end up being convicted of?
Tim: Original charges were 288 which is lewd acts with a minor. I got it reduced to attempted consensual sex with a minor while under 21.
