Interview with Calvin
JM: Did you find it difficult to get along with other inmates? Please give examples to explain why you did or didn't.
Calvin: There's a lot of answering to people. You pretty
much hav to do what other people tell you to do
if you get caught up in running with gangs.
JM: What types of things did you have to do to avoid problems or fights with other inmates?
Calvin: You could join a gang causes there's protection
there but that's not something I would recommend.
I was already a gang member going in so I didn't
have much choice. I'm out now.
JM: Were you able to choose an inmate as your cellmate if you knew one? How often would your cellmate(s) change?
Calvin: Yeah. You could but you just can't be with
anybody. You can't be with someone who is a
different race.
