Telephones

Interview with Jamie and Karina

JM: Did you have regular access to telephones?
Jamie: Yes in the main lobby of the jail when it was open we had access to pay phones.Although it is ridiculous to have to make collect calls. Very rarely could i speak with my family because the only way you could call was collect unless you had a phone card
Karina: Yes there was regular access to telephones

JM: What types of charges applied for calling people? How much money would you guess the average inmate spends per week on phone calls?
Jamie: Collect. I would call once a week or less for only a few minutes. My family did not have the money to put it on my books so I could not afford a calling card
Karina: THEY WER collect calls unless you bought a calling card or the person you were calling had a phone line with global tell. id say the average inmate spends about 20 in calls

JM: Did you need to buy phone cards to call out?
Jamie: Yes or collect
Karina: tHE FIRST 3 calls were free then you would need to buy calling cards if the person you were calling didnt want to set up an account with global tell

JM: Did the jail screen your calls?
Jamie: yes calls were monitored as well as you visits were monitored. Not to mention all of your mail was read except legal mail
Karina: I believe the jail did screen calls it says it when you call out
