Leisure Time

Interview with Amy

JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time?
Amy: There was an exercise yard and an area in each dorm that you could play cards or board games in, as well as watch TV.

JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce? Give details.
Amy: The competition to watch TV was pretty fierce, so I stayed away from that room.

JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail?
Amy: Not at all. I actually lost weight because of the horrible tasting food.

JM: How often did you get to go outside? What did you do outside if you were allowed to? If you were not allowed to go outside what could you do for exercise?
Amy: I was allowed outside for 4 hours each day.

JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held?
Amy: The jail offered church services on Sundays and they were held in a small chapel. I don’t know what they were like, as I never attended.
