Interview with Katie and Angel

JM: Did you have regular access to telephones?
Katie: Yes, but they have Evercom and alot of the numbers that you dial will not go through. Alot of the people in there have family with cell phones and you have to set up an account with this Evercom company on a land line.
Angel: Yes, But they have evercom which is the worst service for a jail to have. Sometimes it works and sometimes it don't. So many people sit in there without knowing anything beause it won't register the number you are calling.

JM: What types of charges applied for calling people? How much money would you guess the average inmate spends per week on phone calls?
Katie: $2.75 to connect and 1.25 per minutes for 15 minutes.
Angel: I Just Know One Time it costed Sixty Dollars to call my mom in Morristown TN for Ten Minutes.

JM: Did you need to buy phone cards to call out?
Katie: Yes sometimes. You get 10 minutes for $5.00
Angel: Yes, I did it was the easiet way, I got three Ten Minute Calls for one $5.00 card. You can only buy a card or Cards once a week.

JM: Did the jail screen your calls?
Katie: Sometimes.
Angel: Maybe, they never said anything to me about things I said. But they read every word of every letter that people send in to you, so i'm sure they monitor the calls.
