Interview with Tony

JM: Did you find it difficult to get along with other inmates? Please give examples to explain why you did or didn't.
Tony: Most inmates were respectful and polite however a few did target me for most of my sentence. Its a fragile and tenuous environment where many subtleties exist and misinterpretations and distortions in language exist which can lead to conflicts

JM: What types of things did you have to do to avoid problems or fights with other inmates?
Tony: communication was crucial but sometimes diplomacy "goes out the window" and confronting others in an assertive and aggressive manner is necessary to have someone leave you alone Sometimes you could talk to another inmate you were friends with and they could talk to the "problem inmate" and reduce the conflict through brokering r

JM: Were you able to choose an inmate as your cellmate if you knew one? How often would your cellmate(s) change?
Tony: No choice most of the times however if you did ask an officer you knew was helpful he/she would grant a change as long as no security issues existed Sometimes or known issues
