JM: What types of facilities were available to help pass the time? Tony: gym was available once per week for an hour and
that was it.
They had weekly religious services
Overall there was a definite shortage of
facilities and it caused much stress since inmates
are stuck together with little or nothing to do
each day. All inmates hoped there would be more
offered
JM: Did you have regular access to the entertainment or was competition fierce? Give details. Tony: two tvs were are entertainment and since a few
inmates controlled the "clicker remote" it was not
always easy to watch what you wanted
No other entertainment existed other than
borrowing books each week from the visiting
librarian. you were allowed two books each week to
read and sometimes there were magazines
JM: Did you have a hard time staying in shape while in jail? Tony: No I lost fifty pounds since I worked out daily
however due to the food being inedible and not
enough calories I burned much muscle
JM: How often did you get to go outside? What did you do outside if you were allowed to? If you were not allowed to go outside what could you do for exercise? Tony: maybe once or twice weekly into a very small "cage
like" area which was horrible and totally
inadequate since it would be crowded and often had
a handball game going which meant you had a small
corner to stand still in. Totally inadequate and
cruel
Exercise was left to housing area (cell or dorm area)
JM: Did the jail offer church services? If so, what were they like and when were they held? Tony: Yes they offered services weekly in small area of
prison for many different services
they used the same small cramped rooms as
education clases
