Interview with Eric

JM: Did you have regular access to telephones?
Eric: Yes I had pretty good access to telephones.

JM: What types of charges applied for calling people? How much money would you guess the average inmate spends per week on phone calls?
Eric: The calls were about $15 a piece, or more for long distance. I don't think the average inmate spent much on the phone because not many people used it. Out of a cell of 26 I think maybe 6-7 used the phone daily. Those people spent probably close to $100 per week. I used it a few times a week and spent $30 a week.

JM: Did you need to buy phone cards to call out?
Eric: You could order phone time through commissary, on the phone.

JM: Did the jail screen your calls?
Eric: The jail did screen calls.
