Interview with Shawanda Miller, Jeremy, Chuck, Charles and Josh

JM: What else would you want a friend or family member to know if they have a loved one going to this jail?
Shawanda Miller: Not really. Things aren't as bad as they seem. Just remember they will release you. They shouldn't do the crime if they can't do the time.
Jeremy: i would suggest that if you have a warrant against you...turn yourself IN...its better that way! The judge and the Courts will look HIGHLY on you! Not to mention that you will probably get released on OR like i did! I mean this one guy with me had a warrant with the same charge as me but since the cops arrested him the judge set his bail at $30,000....me NOTHING! Why would you want to be handcuffed and brought into jail AGAIN? I mean if you have a warrant it isnt going to GO AWAY! The officer told me that they have WARRANTS on their computer from 1980! So better to take care of it! Remember as long as you have a FELONY warrant you cant get SSI, Medical Assistance or any other County or Federal Help!
Chuck: Write a lot. You can send money for canteen if you want.
Charles: Make sure they have enough money to buy phone time and extra food because the portions are so small. Be prepared to spend a lot of time locked down in your cell.
Josh: If you have a family member going to dakota county jail, send them a letter every once in a while. Phone calls may be expensive but a letter will suffice. Jail sucks. Order them some food too. People are starving in there

JM: If somebody knows they will be serving time in this jail what is your advice to them?
Shawanda Miller: No.
Jeremy: Relax! Even this will pass!
Chuck: Make sure you know all your options. You can qualify to do straigt time, sentence to serve jail or work release. A lot of guys don't even know thier options. Overall stay focused on working for your future.
Charles: Make sure they have enough money to buy phone time and extra food because the portions are so small. Be prepared to spend a lot of time locked down in your cell.
Josh: Make sure that you have some money in your pocket before you go into this jail. They take $25 right off the bat for your booking fees so bring as much as you can.. or starve.

JM: Please list any other jail or rehab facilities you have been to.
Chuck: No others.
Charles: olmstead county ramsey county Washington county barron county, WI st cloud prison moose lake prison
Josh: I've also been to the Dakota County Juvenile Detention Center, Dunn County Jail, W.I., Park Avenue Treatment Center in Minneapolis, and Arbor Place treatment center in Menomonie W.I..
