Good Behavior

Interview with Helen and Leon

JM: Did you get off early based on good behavior?
Helen: I didn't any get time off for good behavior. I was released for payment of what I owed.
Leon: I was released before my sentencing, so no.

JM: What is the most time off you can receive for good behavior?
Helen: I don't know what the most time off you can receive for good behavior.
Leon: Generally you get one day off your sentence for every six you serve, so a 90 day sentence would only be 75, or a six month sentence would only be five months. If your sentence is longer than 90 days you can apply to be a trustee. If you're accepted, you get a day off your sentence for every day that you work.

JM: What types of actions do you need to avoid in order to get time off? Did you ever witness somebody losing time off for good behavior?
Helen: I'm not that familiar with this process. I never witnessed someone in Warren County losing time or gaining any for the time that I was there.
Leon: Don't get into fights or piss off the CO's. Most of the corrections officers were friendly. I never saw anyone lose their good time.
