Inmates

Interview with Charles

JM: Did you find it difficult to get along with other inmates? Please give examples to explain why you did or didn't.
Charles: Yes and no. I tried to fit in as much as possible. I tried to keep to myself because I was around people I never thought I would be around with. Serious people with serious charges like attempted murder.

JM: What types of things did you have to do to avoid problems or fights with other inmates?
Charles: I had to lie about my offense during the whole process because if they knew what I was there for I would have had to be kept in protective custody. I avoided any kinds of situations where there was a chance for conflict like with gambling.

JM: Were you able to choose an inmate as your cellmate if you knew one? How often would your cellmate(s) change?
Charles: Yeah you could. Each little cubicle had three people so you could find someone you got along with and move in there with them.
