Telephones

Interview with Traci and Mama

JM: Did you have regular access to telephones?
Traci: When they decided to cut them on you could have a ten minute phone call but if they didn't want to cut them on then "oh well."
Mama: 10am - 10pm except the 3 hours of lock down issued daily.

JM: What types of charges applied for calling people? How much money would you guess the average inmate spends per week on phone calls?
Traci: I called collect to Highpoint and my phone call was over 7 dollars for ten minutes.
Mama: I've heard anywhere from $2 - $10 for a 10 minute phone call

JM: Did you need to buy phone cards to call out?
Traci: No they didn't have that unless you had someone send you a card number and you could use that on your free call.
Mama: Weren't allowed to use them except on your clean up call

JM: Did the jail screen your calls?
Traci: No.
Mama: All calls are recorded and can be listened into at anytime.
